Just off the N10 between Poitiers and Angouleme, Janie's Place is an ideal base for househunters and business travellers, and the old stone house is also a beautiful and romantic place to stay for holidaymakers. We love cooking, and hope we provide varied and interesting menus (and for vegetarians!) for our four-course dinners with wine. The second sunniest place in France, the region basks in 2,250 hours of sunshine annually, and you are never short of a way to enjoy it. Ramble or ride through the peaceful rolling countryside (hardly any cars!), and swim, fish, canoe or soak up the atmosphere of the medieval towns and villages and Roman churches and cathedrals. Whatever the season there is always a local or regional event for you to enjoy that has a unique French feel to it. We are just a few minutes from the elegant Chateau de Verteuil, whose conical towers soar above the town. The old stone bridge spanning the river gives you a dramatic view of the Chateau, the old watermill and the waterfall thundering into the Charente. Wander down to the riverbank that is dotted with timber trestle picnic tables and enjoy a leisurely lunch (we can make one up for you with homemade delicacies), swim in the shallows (safe for kids), or hire a canoe or kayak. Our house has a spacious sitting-cum-dining room with a wonderful carved stone fireplace, antique furniture and prints and a wide choice of books if you choose to relax in the old leather Chesterfield. Also, we have a hi-fi, television and DVD.Upstairs there are original oak-planked floors and four double bedrooms. For children a snug pine clad room is available with two single beds. Our orchard garden is enclosed by a stone wall, and there is plenty of covered parking. The garden counts nearly 35 species of fruit and nut trees, sweet scented beds of lavender and a lovely pink rose walk. Musky purple grapes are a feature of our pretty courtyard that is a real sun trap. Jane speaks both French and English, and if you are a property hunter or simply on holiday, is happy to provide any help or advice!
