The Old Homestead at Byresteads offers bed and breakfast accommodation in the Lorton Valley near Cockermouth in Cumbria. The property consists of a stunning renovation of a traditonal Cumbrian long house and is full of character and Olde World charm but has been designed with comfort in mind. Our B&B has light and airy rooms with exposed beams complimented by Oak furniture and slate floors warmed by underfloor heating. Two of our ground-floor rooms have facilities for guests with mobility problems. The Old Homestead has a large welcoming lounge with an Honesty Bar for a relaxing drink by the log fire. Your hosts Zen and Jayne are there to welcome you and cook a traditional Cumbrian breakfast (vegetarian option available) or continental breakfast to ready you for the days events. Our guest house is situated in the Northern Lake District and lies at the head of the idyllic vale of Lorton. The property is less than two miles from the market town of Cockermouth and eight miles from Keswick. There are five lakes within easy driving distance - Derwentwater Bassenthwaite Crummock Water Buttermere and Loweswater. The accommodation at The Old Homestead is first class. All rooms are bright and airy each with en-suite facilities and underfloor heating. The property has been sympathetically restored with many of the rooms having exposed beams. The oak furniture and leather chairs and sofas were chosen to compliment and reflect the style and quality of the rooms. Byresteads Farm is a 16th Century farmhouse recently converted to the highest quality B&B accommodation. On entering the lobby you can see the large commercial bread oven possibly used to bake bread for the surrounding farms and villages still with the original dome intact. Moving through to the spacious sitting room step back in time as you stand in the unique inglenook and absorb the history.
