Book a room at the Posada Amazonas lodge, Peru for a genuine eco-tourist experience. This Tambopata lodge is located in the territory of the Infierno Community, where indigenous Ese'ejas live, directly adjacent to the Tambopata-Candamo National Reserve. Posada Amazonas is a 30 bedroom lodge owned by the Community of Infierno and managed by Rainforest Expeditions. It was built using a combination of native materials and modern technology: the entire roof is made of high-quality crisneja palm fronds, and the floors are of tropical mahogany. Guests enjoy resting and socializing in the common areas of the Posada Amazonas, which include a dining room and bar, a reception lounge with souvenir shop, and an interpretative centre. Three self-serve meals are prepared at the lodge each day; all fresh fruits and vegetables are thoroughly disinfected, and drinking water, tea, and coffee are prepared from water that has been carefully boiled, filtered, and cooled. The time required to travel from Puerto Maldonado to Posada Amazonas is less than two hours, so visitors can start exploring the forest the same afternoon they arrive. Programs available through the lodge including canopy tower visit 33 metres/98 feet up view of the rain forest; watching parrots and parakeets at a clay lick; Ethnobotanial tour; Ceiba trail hike; paddling a catamaran in Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake in hopes of seeing the resident family of giant river otters and night walks to the forest.
