Saffron Walden itself is an unspoilt country town, with narrow streets and old buildings, many of them 'pargeted'. The town's specialist shops are well worth exploring. Audley End, England's largest Jacobean mansion, is on the doorstep, and the beautiful university town of Cambridge is just 12 miles away.
