Whether on business or pleasure, take time to enjoy Judy and Michael's magnificent breakfasts. The Anvil Inn is a 17th century coaching house and reputedly the oldest public house in Shifnal. Log fires, original beams, and real ales all add to the warm friendly atmosphere in this traditional old English pub. One of the existing original out buildings is said to be haunted by The Anvil Ghost. For the summer months there is also a beer garden with barbeque facilities. The Anvil Inn was first licensed in 1856 and prior to that was the main stop for all horse drawn traffic travelling between Birmingham and Holyhead. The Anvil gets its name from the fact that the black smith who worked in the wheel makers over the road lived in the pub annex. This building now forms part of the new Anvil Lodge accommodation. Aston Street (originally Cordwainer Street) would have once been the manufacturing hub of leather bridle goods and coaches. The Anvil Inn is mentioned and pictured in the Old Book of Shifnal. The look and feel hasn't altered that much over the years. Hotel Rating: AA (star) 4 star
