The George Hotel is an elegant Grade II listed hotel occupying a colourful and varied history. Situated in the main square of Huddersfield, the building compliments its neighbour, the Huddersfield Railway Station with its fine Italian facade designed by William Walker. It is also near Leeds Bradford International Airport. This is a traditional, 5 storey, Victorian building with a pale stone facade: Most impressive building to look at. The hotel lobby is medium in size and elegant in decor with a mahogany reception desk and a few sofas. There is plenty of Space for groups and their luggage. The hotel was built in the Victorian period around 1851 and is famous as the birthplace of Rugby League Football, the meeting that founded the organisation was held here in 1895 and the memorabilia recalling this can be found throughout the hotel as well as in the recently opened Rugby League Museum. The Hotel is the perfect environment for business overnight stays, weekend's away, rugby league fanatics or visiting friends and family. Whether for business or pleasure, the George is the ideal choice. The rooms are medium in size and in very good condition with ensuite Bathrooms, satellite tv, hairdryer, trouser press, direct dial telephone and welcome trays. The decor is very Victorian with patterned wallpaper and matching bedspreads and curtains. The St George's restaurant is renowned for its excellent cuisine with traditional English Cuisine and Yorkshire speciailites. The room is large and spacious with long drapes on the windows.
